Spread the Love

Spread the Love is new event created by the Operation Smile Student clubs in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

Spread the Love was created as platform to empower our students to perform acts of kindness and philanthropy that will create an impact in both their schools and their local community.

Operation Smile Student Programs is excited to grow Spread the Love to all of our student clubs around the world so that we can all celebrate the impact we have in both our global and local communities!

Here are some of the wonderful philanthropic acts that our students have performed during the 2020 Spread the Love campaign!

FIRST COLONIAL HIGH SCHOOL

  • Co-hosting a “kids night out” at Trantwood Elementary School.
  • Handing out lollipops in school to spread the love to other students.
  • Volunteering at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters annual Love Run.
  • Hosting a series of motivational speakers for their student body.
  • Hosting a “Moe’s Night” fundraiser at a varsity basketball game.

COX HIGH SCHOOL

  • Hosting a pizza party for the Beach Buddies (students at Cox HS who have special needs) program.
  • Handing out lollipops in school to spread the love to other students.
  • Volunteering at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters annual Love Run.
  • Making bracelets to send to Operation Smile patients in the Dominican Republic.
  • Co-hosting a “kids night out” at Trantwood Elementary School.

BAYSIDE HIGH SCHOOL

  • Creating a Spread the Love station where students can write “what makes them smile” on a post-it note and place it on a display.
  • Hosting a Spread the Love social media campaign/challenge.
  • Creating teacher appreciation cards to spread the love to Bayside faculty.
  • Making bracelets to send to Operation Smile patients in Morocco.
  • Painting kindness rocks with student athletes from the Unified Track and Field Team, a running team consisting of students with special needs.
  • Hosting an awareness table during the Spread the Love campaign to promote Operation Smile Student Programs events.
  • Creating positivity posters to hang around school.
  • Handing out lollipops in school to spread the love to other students in school.
  • Holding a supply drive to send essential items on Operation Smile medical missions.

HAMPTON ROADS ACADEMY

  • Placing positive message notes on every student’s locker.
  • Making a paper chain consisting of student messages stating what they love about school.
  • Decorating the front walk leading into school and painting the school spirit rock with hearts and the Operation Smile logo.
  • Holding a spare change drive.
  • Creating gift baskets containing baked goods for local fire station.
  • Selling donuts at school for “Smiles for Breakfast” to raise supplies going out on an Operation Smile medical mission.

PRINCESS ANNE HIGH SCHOOL

  • Visiting a local retirement home and providing food and entertainment.
  • Hosting a lunch for the students in the West Wing special needs facility.
  • Partnering with UNICEF to create and hang positivity posters throughout the school.

TALLWOOD HIGH SCHOOL

  • Hosting a lunch social/mixer with the Tallwood High School Best Buddies special needs program. Students will enjoy lunch with the Best Buddies, listen to music and play games.
  • Volunteering at the Union Mission.

OSCAR SMITH HIGH SCHOOL

  • Creating an appreciation station where students can create cards for fellow students and teachers.
  • Volunteering at Oak Grove Church’s soup kitchen.

NORFOLK ACADEMY

  • Handing out bracelets and compliments written on sticky notes during school to spread the love to other students.
  • Volunteering to have a play day with the local Special Olympics club.

CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL

  • Creating get-well cards to send to patients at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.
  • Holding a drive to benefit Catholic Charities of Virginia.
  • Volunteering at Marian Manor, a local assisted living facility.

OCEAN LAKES HIGH SCHOOL

  • Created a Spread the Love banner to hang in school.
  • Presenting Operation Smile student mission stories during Founders Week.

MAURY HIGH SCHOOL

  • Partnering with the Maury High School Friendship Club to paint kindness rocks.
  • Making Valentine’s Day Cards for patients at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.

KEMPSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

  • Creating appreciation cards to hand out to staff and faculty.
  • Holding a canned good drive for a local church.

KELLAM HIGH SCHOOL

  • Making a “take what you need” compliment board to display in school.
  • Having a clean the beach effort at Sandbridge beach.

CAPE HENRY COLLEGIATE

  • Handing out lollipops in school to spread the love to other students in school.
  • Hosting a guest speaker to speak at a school assembly.

We’re excited to Spread the Love and share the spirit of service through our art exhibit! We invite students ages 5-18 to use their creativity and help children born with cleft lip and cleft palate.
